Karkardooma Court nearest metro station: getting to the court complex by metro

The Karkardooma Courts complex in East Delhi handles a heavy daily load of litigants, lawyers, witnesses and staff, and most of them come by metro. The good news is that a Pink Line station was built right next to it. The less good news is that two stations carry almost the same name, which sends many first-time visitors to the wrong one. Here is how to get it right.

The nearest station: Karkarduma Court (Pink Line)

Karkarduma Court station opened on 31 October 2018 on the Pink Line and is named after the court complex. On OpenStreetMap the station is only about 200 metres from the complex, so the walk to the gate takes a few minutes. The station is elevated, has side platforms, and is listed by Delhi Metro as wheelchair accessible.

The neighbouring Pink Line stations are Karkarduma on one side and Krishna Nagar on the other.

If you are on the Blue Line

The Blue Line does not stop at Karkarduma Court. You have two choices:

  1. Change at Karkarduma. Get off the Blue Line at Karkarduma, follow the signs to the Pink Line and ride one stop to Karkarduma Court.
  2. Walk from Karkarduma. The court complex is a little over 1 km from Karkarduma station in a straight line. On foot, along the main roads, allow about 15 to 20 minutes. E-rickshaws wait near the station exits.

On a weekday morning, when the hearing list starts and the Pink Line platforms are crowded, the walk or an e-rickshaw is often just as fast as the interchange. If you are short on time, do not rely on the connecting train.

About the court complex

The Karkardooma Courts complex was built in 1997 to 1998 and houses district courts serving East Delhi. Cause lists, case status and court notices are published through the Delhi district courts website and the national eCourts services portal, which is the reliable place to check whether a matter is listed on a given day.

We do not publish court timings, because they depend on the court, the type of matter and administrative orders that change. Use the official portals, your lawyer or the notice you received.

Tips for a court day

Spellings you will see

Court documents usually say "Karkardooma Courts". Delhi Metro signs say "Karkarduma Court". Maps sometimes show "Karkardoma". They all refer to the same place. For the wider neighbourhood, PIN codes and nearby localities, see our Karkardooma area guide, and for the interchange station itself, the Karkardooma metro station guide.

Getting back after a long day

Hearings can run late, and the metro platforms fill up when the courts empty in the afternoon. If you are heading towards central Delhi, consider walking to Karkarduma and boarding the Blue Line there, where trains towards Dwarka run frequently. If you are heading to Mayur Vihar, Lajpat Nagar or South Delhi, the Pink Line from Karkarduma Court is usually the most direct. For North-East Delhi, take the Pink Line in the other direction via Krishna Nagar.

If you are carrying heavy files or travelling with an elderly relative, an app cab from the main road may be easier than the stairs and crowds. Pickup points on Maharaja Surajmal Marg are simplest for drivers to find.
